The United States has said that Lebanon is not part of the ceasefire agreement reached with Iran, according to remarks by Vice President JD Vance.

Speaking to reporters, Vance clarified that while Tehran may interpret the ceasefire as extending to Lebanon, Washington has made no such commitment. He described the discrepancy as a misunderstanding between the parties.

The vice president stressed that the agreement applies specifically to Iran, US allies, Israel and countries in the Persian Gulf. He indicated that the scope of the deal had been clearly defined during negotiations.

The comments come amid continued regional tensions following recent military escalations involving Iran, Israel and US-aligned forces. Observers say differing interpretations of ceasefire terms could complicate efforts to stabilise the broader Middle East security environment.

It remains unclear whether further diplomatic engagement will be needed to address the apparent gap in expectations between Washington and Tehran regarding Lebanon’s status under the agreement.
