“We would like Europe to contribute," said US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth at a press conference today, APA reports.

The secretary emphasized the importance of Europe playing a more active role in security matters.

According to him, this is because the situation particularly regarding the Strait of Hormuz is of greater importance for them: “We do not rely on Europe, but they need the Strait of Hormuz more than we do, and perhaps they should talk less, hold fewer lavish conferences in Europe, and start taking practical steps.”

The defense secretary also criticized recent meetings held in Europe: “Last week, a meaningless conference was held in Europe, where only what could be done in the future was discussed.”

Hegseth stressed that such steps are not yet considered sufficiently serious efforts: “These are not yet serious efforts. We would like Europe to contribute.”
