Seismologists recorded two earthquakes with magnitudes of 5.1 and 5.3 near the Kuril Islands. The tremors could be felt in the Southern Kuril Islands, according to the branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Federal Research Center of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences), APA reports.

The first earthquake occurred at 3:35 AM (7:35 PM Moscow time, February 11) at a depth of 63 km, 291 km south of Simushir Island. Its magnitude was 5.1. The second earthquake, with a magnitude of 5.3, was recorded at 5:00 AM (9:00 PM Moscow time, February 11) at a depth of 66 km, 55 km northeast of the village of Malokurilskoye. Tremors of up to magnitude 3 could have been felt as far away as the Southern Kuril Islands.
