Two world wars have shown that the destinies of the United States and Europe are ultimately intertwined and will always remain so, said U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio during his speech at the Munich Security Conference, APA reports.

“We know that Europe’s destiny will always be linked to ours. We are defending a great civilization — a civilization that has every reason to be proud of itself. This civilization began here, in Europe. Europe gave the world scientific revolutions and a system based on laws. It was this continent that gave the world the great Mozart and Beethoven, Shakespeare, Da Vinci and others. We defend this civilization together,” Rubio noted.

He emphasized that his country is ready to strengthen cooperation with Europe and that this cooperation must take on new formats.

“We do not want separation, but rather to revive our old friendship and renew the greatest civilization in the history of humanity,” the U.S. Secretary of State added.

It should be noted that earlier, European politicians speaking at the Munich Security Conference addressed claims about declining U.S. interest in the continent and a weakening alliance with Washington, stressing that cooperation with the United States remains vital for Europe, while also noting that the continent should reduce its military dependence on Washington.
