Baku. Mubariz Aslanov – APA. A draft law “On the possibility of the implementation by the Republic of Azerbaijan of the decision of the interstate body for the protection of human rights and freedoms”, was tabled at the meeting of the parliamentary Committee on legal policy and state building on March 17.

The author of the draft law, MP Rafael Jabrayilov presented the document.

According to the draft law, the Constitutional Court is given new powers in relation to the definition of the possibility of execution of decisions passed by international organizations on human rights and freedoms in Azerbaijan, Jabrayilov said.

The draft was prepared on the basis of Article 130 of the Constitution (Constitutional Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan).

Jabrayilov noted that a number of states have such an experience and it is the constitutional right of Azerbaijan.

“Unfortunately, this draft law was firstly misinterpreted by some media outlets, as if Azerbaijan is avoiding the implementation of the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights. It doesn’t mean so. We are only formalizing our legal options against double standards. The Constitutional Court will be empowered to consider the possibility of implementation of any decision by international organizations,” he added.

Following the discussion, the draft law was submitted to the upcoming parliamentary session.
