Turkish airlines are cancelling flights to Moscow, APA’s Russia bureau reports.
Over the past 24 hours, 77 flights have already been delayed or cancelled at three Moscow airports.
Pegasus cancelled a flight to Moscow and turned back two other aircraft. Passengers were told that the decision had been made due to the situation in Russian airspace.
Passengers on flight PC1456 from Bodrum to Moscow told Ostorozhno Novosti that they were due to depart for Vnukovo at 00:05, but the flight was cancelled during boarding. According to them, airline representatives attributed the cancellation to the “airspace situation” and said that the Turkish airline had cancelled all flights for this reason.
“We don’t know what to expect; our Turkish counterpart is prohibiting flights,” passengers quoted Pegasus employees as saying. The tourists were provided with hotel accommodation until noon, but were not informed of a new departure time.
Flight PC1576 from Antalya to Moscow turned back over Lithuania, while flight PC1521 from Izmir to Moscow also returned to Türkiye.
It should be noted that aviation risk assessment company Osprey Flight Solutions has issued a separate warning. According to Reuters, it informed airlines that attacks deep inside Russian territory, including areas near Moscow and St. Petersburg, would be inevitable through the end of this year. The company also warned of the risk of miscalculation and misidentification of targets by air defence systems.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy threatened Moscow that they would close Russian airspace.
Russian President Vladimir Putin described Zelenskyy’s threat as “state terrorism.” Commenting on Zelenskyy’s threats to close the country’s airspace, Russian Transport Minister Nikitin said that Russia would not allow serious disruptions to civil aviation operations.
