300,000 hectares cleared of mines in liberated territories to date

Around 300,000 hectares have been cleared of mines in the liberated territories to date, Samir Poladov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA), said during his speech at a panel session held as part of the 4th International Mine Action Conference themed “Humanitarian Demining for Urban Recovery: Setting Standards of Excellence for Safe Settlements,” APA reports.

It was noted that as a result of the process, 43,000 mines and more than 24,000 explosive devices have been destroyed.

“Our annual target is to clear 65,000 hectares of land of mines. Every year, we set a specific target for clearing territories of mines. Last year, we achieved a record by clearing more than 1,600,000 hectares of land. Our target for this year is also 65,000 hectares, and we have already completed around 50,000 hectares of this,” Samir Poladov said.

He noted that ANAMA cooperates with various partners. In total, more than 4,500 employees are involved in humanitarian operations:

“Part of our work, alongside clearing territories of mines and returning them to use, consists of raising awareness about the potential dangers that mines and explosive devices may pose.”
