The Western Azerbaijan Community has issued a statement on the occasion of December 10th - International Human Rights Day, APA reports.
The statement reads: "As the Western Azerbaijan Community, which unites numerous Azerbaijanis forcibly displaced from their native lands by Armenia and fighting for their right of return, we want to emphasize that we attach special importance to December 10th, the International Human Rights Day. This day, established to commemorate the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which forms the universal foundations of human rights and serves as the origin of our right to return, is one of the significant reference points for our just cause. On this important day, we once again express our deep concern over Armenia's continued gross violations of human rights by denying the right of return to Western Azerbaijanis.
We also express serious concern over the grave injustices faced by the entire Azerbaijani people as a result of the ethnic and religious discriminatory policies of certain foreign countries. Another worrying situation is that these countries attempt to disguise their Azerbaijanophobic and discriminatory policies under the guise of human rights. Such hypocritical policies inflict the greatest harm on the human rights. We strongly condemn these inherently racist approaches and declare that we will continue our efforts to expose such actions in the future.
At the same time, we commend Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev for ending Armenia's 30-year occupation and thereby restoring the rights of hundreds of thousands of former IDPs. Furthermore, we must highlight the efforts of President Ilham Aliyev to ensure the peaceful return rights of Western Azerbaijanis, including his historic address to the second international conference on the right of return organized by our Community on December 5-6, 2024, which significantly contributes to our right of return and to the implementation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as a whole.
We call on the international community to applaud and support the ongoing efforts for the return of Western Azerbaijanis as an important contribution to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights."
