Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources told APA that main forest-forming tree species in Azerbaijan are beech (fagus), hornbeam (carpinus), oak (quercus) and others.
31.7% of Azerbaijani forests are covered by beech trees (fagus) and they are widely spreading over middle and upper belts of the Greater and Lesser Caucasus, as well as Talysh Mountains.
Hornbeam (carpinus) makes 26% of the forests. They are widespread in the lower, middle and upper mountain belts of the Greater and Lesser Caucasus, as well as Talysh Mountains.
23.4% of the forests are covered by oak trees (quercus) and they are widespread in the lower, middle and upper mountain belts of the Greater and Lesser Caucasus, Talysh Mountains, as well as in Riparian forests.
Other species make up 18.9% of the forests.
