Director, surgeon of Baku hospital dismissed over wrong amputation case

Baku. Konul Kamilgizi - APA. The director and surgeon of the Angiology and Microsurgical Center under Azerbaijan’s Health Ministry have been relieved of their duties over the wrong amputation case, the Health Ministry said in a statement to APA on July 4.

 

According to the statement, the center director Azer Shamsaddinsky and surgeon Valeh Karimov have been relieved of their duties, and assistant surgeon Rzazade Afsar has been given a severe reprimand over the wrong amputation case recorded at the center.

 

Eyyubov Yunis was appointed as acting director of the Angiology and Microsurgical Center.

 

The patient with diabetes Tarlan Mammadova, 87, who was diagnosed with amputation of the left leg, was operated in the Angiology and Microsurgical Center of the Health Ministry on June 24. However, physician Valeh Karimov amputated her healthy right leg instead of the inflamed left leg. Her other leg was amputated a few days later.

 

Baku City Yasamal District Prosecutor’s office has initiated a criminal case on the fact under the Article #131.2 (causing of heavy harm to health on imprudence) of the Criminal Code.
