US Vice President James David Vance is seeking to gain the support of Donald Trump's supporters who are dissatisfied with the president's foreign policy ahead of the 2028 presidential election, Fox News reports, citing a source.
On Wednesday, Vance cited the war against Iran as a reason for the Republican Party's defeat in the congressional midterm elections in a post on his X account.
According to Fox News, the vice president thereby demonstrated that his views on foreign policy and US relations with Israel differ from Trump's position.
In his post, Vance also listed four areas that, according to polls, could help Republicans regain public support: ending the war with Iran, focusing on reducing the cost of living and combating inflation, adhering to the "America First" principle, and reconsidering relations with Israel.
A source within the US administration told the television channel that these four areas could be seen as Vance's appeal to the "New Right."
These forces are described as a coalition of Republicans who support Trump's original "America First" principle and advocate against involvement in foreign conflicts.
However, the Fox News source emphasized that Vance's statement should not be interpreted as a break with Trump. According to the television channel, the vice president wants to send a message to Republicans who support Trump but disagree with his foreign policy. That message is: "Vance is our guy."
