APA reports that the first day of the new academic year has started today in all educational institutions as September 15 fell on Sunday this year.
141 166 pupils are expected to go to the first form of the secondary schools this year. 74998 of first graders are boys and 66168 girls. There were 135 541 first graders in the secondary schools in 2012-2013 academic year. About 2400 children with special talents have entered the first form this year.
144 new schools, additional buildings of 13 existing schools are under construction and major overhaul is being carried out in 115 schools. Repair works of 164 educational institutions, major overhauls of which haven’t been envisaged in the “State Program on socio-economic development of Baku city and its settlements in 2011-2013” are being carried out.
As every year, more than 4 million textbooks have been published this year. Textbooks for the sixth form have been prepared for the first time based on the curriculum. The distribution of textbooks in the educational institutions of the country has already been completed.
This year, 1474 teachers have been recruited. 1116 out them are women, 358 – men.
Under the order of Education Minsiter Mikayil Jabbarov, since 2013-2014 academic year, the first lesson in 5-11th form classes will be devoted to the theme "My homeland - Native Land”. These lessons will serve to explain Heydar Aliyev’s merits to the motherland and people, improve students’ knowledge about state symbols and thoroughly inform about Azerbaijan’s flora and fauna, historical and cultural monuments, well-known figures, the position of our country in the world community, the recent achievements and heroes, who died for the sake of the motherland.
