ANAS establishes new department to study scientific aspects of Azerbaijani mugham

ANAS Vice-president Isa Habibbeyli told APA that the new department will study mugham in terms of science for the first time in the history of ANAS. The department will function under the ANAS Institute of Architecture and Art.

He said that mugham competitions held in the country have given a great impetus to the development of national and cultural development of mugham: “However, science of mugham should be re-organized against the background of such competitions. Thus, ANAS is establishing new Department of Mugham Studies. The new department will study mugham-related processes from the scientific point of view. Preparations are underway to establish the new department, the academy administration will pass the final decision soon.”

Habibbeyli said up to now the academy has had separate scientific-research departments on folk art, music. Vice-president said mugham is worth of being studied separately.

“Therefore, Department of Mugham Studies will be established at the academy. This will be the first in the history of the academy. The history, traditions and theory of mugham will be systematically studied there,” he said.
