Thus, we can characterize the last decade as Azerbaijan’s period of renaissance,” Minister of Finance Samir Sharifov said at conference “Azerbaijan-2013-2018: towards new targets” in Baku today, APA reports.

Sharifov said that Azerbaijan has become a country that invested abroad and launched satellite in the last decade: “Under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, the country’s economy increased by 3.4 times. Salaries increased by 6.4%, pensions by 8.6 times, poverty declined from 50% to 6%. The country's foreign exchange reserves reached $ 50 billion.”

Sharifov noted that 12 decrees and orders were signed in 2003-2013 to increase the salaries of employees of state-funded organizations and 8 orders were issued for indexation of the basic pensions.

Finance Minister said that “Azerbaijan-2020: outlook for the future” development concept is aimed at developing non-oil sector and accelerating industrialization: “It envisages twofold increase in GDP by 2020 and including Azerbaijan in the list of countries with high human development. Azerbaijan ranked the 69th place for GDP production and 78th for GDP per capita in 2012. Azerbaijan’s external debt to GDP ratio is 8.3%. It is planned to increase the salaries of education and health staff to the level of average monthly salary.”
