A memorial event dedicated to the prominent Azerbaijani legal scholar Jahangir Karimov, who was also the teacher of Russian President Vladimir Putin, was held at the Russian Presidential Academy, APA's Moscow correspondent reports.
The event was attended by Viktor Zorin, advisor to the Academy's rector, vice-rectors Sergey Myasoedov and Alexey Spirin, chairman of the Board of Trustees of the "We Love Russia" International Public Movement Viktor Khmarin, as well as representatives from government agencies, public organizations, the scientific community, and students and staff of the Academy.
As a result of the event, it was decided to appeal to the St. Petersburg City Hall for the installation of a memorial plaque at the house where Jahangir Karimov lived, initiated by Ilham Rahimov, the president of the Black Sea-Caspian Region Lawyers Association.
It should also be noted that Jahangir Karimov was the teacher of Russian President Vladimir Putin. While studying at the Faculty of Law of Leningrad State University, Putin was taught by Karimov.
Corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, professor, and a full member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Jahangir Karimov passed away in 2015 at the age of 92.
