Romanian Senate delegation visits Khankendi

A delegation led by Romanian Senator from Maramureș County and member of the Romania-Azerbaijan Interparliamentary Friendship Group, Cristian Augustin Niculescu Țigîrlaș, has paid a visit to Khankendi,  Public Relations Department of the Reconstruction, Construction and Management Service in Khankendi city, Aghdara and Khojaly districts told APA.

Meeting was held with the delegation today.

At the meeting, it was noted that ensuring sustainable settlement in Khankendi, as well as the restoration of infrastructure and the economy, are among the main priorities. The region offers favorable conditions for investors. To date, more than 56 million manats have been invested by private investors, creating jobs for around 2,200 people. By the end of the year, with new enterprises starting operations, this figure is expected to exceed 5,000 jobs.

Executive Director of the Reconstruction, Construction and Management Service in Khankendi city, Aghdara and Khojaly districts , Telman Karimli, informing the guests about resettlement, stated that families have already been relocated to Khojaly city and Aghdara district. So far, 770 families have settled there, and by the end of the year, the number is expected to reach 800.

Deputy Special Representative of the President in Khankendi, Aghdara, and Khojaly, Sabuhi Gahramanov, emphasized that Khankendi will be developed as a “youth city. It was noted that Karabakh University will be of great importance in providing the region with young personnel and transforming it into a science center. In the future, cooperation between Karabakh University and the Technical University in Maramures province may also be considered.

Cristian Augustin Niculescu Tsigirlas, a member of the Romanian Senate from the Maramures region, who said that he was visiting Khankendi for the first time, spoke about the beauty of Karabakh, its fascinating nature, its tourism and industrial potential, and the opportunities for cooperation between Khankendi and the Maramures region. This includes the mutual organization of folklore, music, dance, and theater festivals in the fields of culture and art, the holding of “Culture Days” symbolizing brotherhood relations, as well as cooperation in tourism, economy, education, and public diplomacy.

Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Romania, Gudsi Osmanov, underlined the importance of regional cooperation for strengthening ties between the two countries.

The Romanian parliamentarians were also presented with gifts symbolizing national heritage, got acquainted with the reconstruction process in Khankendi, visited Qarabağ University, and toured Shusha.
