According to him, the analysis on the age of Ganja city has been carried out by the US Smithsonian Institution. A sample was taken from the banding agent that fastened the stones of walls and sent to the Smithsonian Institution for chemical analysis. According to the results, it was found out that Ganja is 4,000 years old.

 

Pishnamazzadeh said that the official conclusion about the age of Ganja will be announced at the South Caucasus Forum in Baku in early March: “Managers of the project “4000-year history of Ganja city” are director of the Library of Alexandria Ismail Sergeldin, Former Latvian President Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga and Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History Paul Taylor. Following the announcement of official age of Ganja, the President is expected to sign an order on this.”

 

Pishnamazzadeh said the first studies on the age of Ganja has been conducted by archaeologist Isag Jafarzadeh in Azerbaijan

 

It has been believed that Ganja has a 2500 - year history up to now: “However, this idea has never been based on archaeological facts. Ancient Ganja has not been involved in the research up to now. One of the objectives of the specification of the age of Ganja is its inclusion in the UNESCO list,” said Pishnamazzadeh.
