Sleet and snow falling in Shamakhi, water level rises in rivers

Baku. Kamala Guliyeva – APA. Abnormal weather continues in Azerbaijan. Deputy Director of the weather forecast bureau of the National Hydrometeorology Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources Gulshad Mammadova told APA that 1-8 mm precipitation fell in Baku and Absheron peninsula yesterday and today.

According to the Shamakhi Region Meteorological Station, continuous rain started in Shamakhi and surrounding areas on April 17, at about 05:00 am. It sleeted in some places and snowed in places 1000 meters above sea level. Thickness of snow was 1-2 cm, water level rose in rivers.

Snow-cover height was 18 cm in Khinalig, 8 cm in Saribash, 6 cm in Ilisu, 3 cm in Kishchay, 1 cm in Gedebey and 10-15 cm in the mountainous regions of Guba.

Abnormal weather condition is accompanied by strong winds. The north wind strengthen up to 22 m/s in Bilasuvar, 20 m/s in Ganja, 18 m/s in Terter, 16 m/s in Shamkir and Naftalan, 15-18 m/s in Absheron peninsula and coastal settlement in Absheron. Oil Rocks Station said that wave height reached 2.5 meters.
