Azerbaijan to host 33rd meeting of Caspian Sea Aquatic Bioresources Commission

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources Irada Ibrahimova told APA that senior delegation from Ministries and Committees on Fisheries of Caspian littoral states would attend the meeting.

According to the agenda of the meeting, the participants will give information on the embezzlement of fishing quotas, work done on artificial fish-breeding and protection of fish resources in 2011-2012, submit reports on the current status of fish stocks as a result of marine expeditions and scientific-researches, consider total allowable catch of aquatic bioresources in the Caspian Sea and its national distribution.

The moratorium on commercial fishing of sturgeons will also be discussed at the meeting. The Kazakh president proposed the moratorium on commercial fishing of sturgeons at the summit in Baku on 18 November 2010 and it was approved by the Presidents of the Caspian littoral states.

The draft agreement on moratorium on sturgeon fishing offered by Russia will be put up for discussion.

The Commission will also discuss the draft agreement on “Conservation and sustainable use of biological resources of the Caspian Sea” proposed by Turkmenistan.
