Azerbaijan develops law on missing persons

He said that the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has offered a model law on missing persons: “Model Law has been also considered by the Commission, comments and suggestions have been prepared. Several countries have such a law. We want Azerbaijan to have law on prisoners of war, hostages and missing persons either. Currently this law is being considered by the government and Azerbaijani Parliament is working on it.”

Head of the ICRC Delegation in Azerbaijan Ms Denise Duran told APA that the ICRC is ready to provide technical support to the Government of Azerbaijan for the adoption of the law: “There is no separate law on missing persons in Azerbaijan currently. However, various legal documents cover this issue. The model law on missing persons has been developed in the world under the expert opinion of the ICRC. We have offered this law to various countries having problem with the families of the missing persons. Any country can use it. We have also offered it to Azerbaijan. The adoption of this law depends on a state. If the state wants, we are ready to provide technical support in this issue."
