He said that the exact date of election in the ANAS in unknown: “Currently, we should mobilize all our efforts to elect the president of the country. We will nominate and support Ilham Aliyev. Following this, we will consider the election in the ANAS. I think that it is not time to elect the ANAS new members, this issue may be postponed.”
Election of the ANAS members was last held in 2007.
Election for vacant full and corresponding member positions of the Academy was announced in February, 2012. 255 people submitted documents for vacant full and corresponding member positions of the Academy. Election was announced for 40 vacant positions, 10 of them being full and 30 corresponding. 34 people submitted documents for the ANAS academician positions, while 221 for corresponding member positions.
