According to him, in this regard, microtremor measurements have been conducted in more than 600 locations in Baku in two years with the support of Science Development Fund under the President of Azerbaijan and the Institute of Geology. As a result of these measurements, a seismic map has been complied.

Gadirov said that in 1998, Azerbaijan GPS landfill was established to study geodynamic situation in the country. Basing on this, tension accumulation map of Azerbaijan has been prepared together with Japanese scientists: “Every organization dealing with geological threats must use this map. There is a very strong tension zone in the south part of Absheron peninsula – Shikhlar and Gobustan. It has a high level of tension. There is also tension zone along the Greater Caucasus. Compression zones exist in the Lesser Caucasus. These zones are also dangerous. At present, a number of quakes hit Iran. There are also compression zones in Nakhchivan. According to our calculations, a powerful quake like in Spitak region of Armenia can hit the Lesser Caucasus after 200-300 year. During this time enough energy can accumulate.”
