“The restoration of numerous qanats (underground water supplies – ed.) in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, which are considered historical and cultural monuments of our people, is also on the agenda,” said Emin Huseynov, Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the liberated territories of the Garabagh Economic Region (except Shusha district), told journalists, APA reports.

He noted that there are more than 50 qanat networks in the Aghdam district alone and there are numerous qanat wells in each of these networks: “As a historical and cultural monument, as well as a very stable and important source of water supply, today, there are more than 50 qanats in Aghdam alone. There are numerous qanat wells in each of these networks. There are wells rich in water resources that are still in working condition among them. But unfortunately, most of these qanats have been destroyed and they need serious restoration.”
