"Khankandi Hydrometeorological Station is the only station that survived the occupation," Akbar Asgarov, Deputy Chief of the National Hydrometeorological Service under the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, told journalists, APA reports.
He said that the station was established and put into operation in 1898: "During the occupation period, there were 9 meteorological and 16 hydrological stations in our liberated territories, all of which were destroyed. Only the Khankandi Hydrometeorological Station remained and functioned as the Hydrometeorological Center of the separatists."
Akbar Agarov noted that during the Soviet era, traditional stations in the area provided data based on observations every 3 hours: "Currently, it operates as an automatic station. It is powered by solar energy and is not connected to any electrical network. Observations are made automatically through this station. Wind speed and direction, precipitation, relative humidity, atmospheric pressure, and air temperature are measured."
He added that the automatic autometeorological station is made in the United States: "There are such stations in several areas of Azerbaijan, as well as in Lachin and Khojaly. These stations transmit real-time data to the Situation Center of the National Hydrometeorological Service."
