Khankandi hosts meeting of Working Group on mine and UXO clearance  -PHOTO

The next meeting of the Working Group on Mine and UXO Clearance, operating under the Interdepartmental Center of the Coordination Headquarters established for the centralized resolution of issues in the liberated territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan, was held in the city of Khankendi, APA's Karabakh bureau reports.

Humanitarian mine clearance activities carried out in the villages of Sarijali and Alimadetli of Aghdam

Within the framework of the visit to the city of Khankendi, representatives of the Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan and relevant state agencies represented in the Working Group got acquainted with the humanitarian mine clearance activities carried out by ANAMA in the village of Sarijali of Aghdam district and by the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the village of Alimadetli of the district.

The working group members observed the progress of the projects being implemented, including the process of neutralizing the discovered mines and unexploded ordnance by explosion.

Then, an expanded meeting of the working group was held in the city of Khankandi.

Vugar Suleymanov, Chairman of the Board of the Agency, Head of the Working Group, spoke at the meeting and reported on the progress of humanitarian demining operations carried out in accordance with the annual action plan. He said that demining operations are one of the main components of the Great Return Program and this activity is a prerequisite not only for security, but also for socio-economic development and the return of the population to their native lands.

Areas cleared of mines and other explosive remnants of war

The Chairman of the Board noted that during the current year, 27,204 hectares of land were cleared of mines and other explosive remnants of war by the organizations involved in mine clearance activities, including 8,318 hectares of residential infrastructure, 9,176 hectares of agriculture, 1,951 hectares of ecological assessment, 708 hectares of transport infrastructure, 628 hectares of land reclamation and water management, and other priority projects.

Speaking at the meeting, Sabuhi Gahramanov, Deputy Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the city of Khankendi, Aghdara and Khojaly districts, provided information on the important work carried out in accordance with the instructions of the head of state towards the reconstruction of the liberated territories, the successful implementation of the Great Return Program, and ensuring safe and sustainable settlement, and on future projects.

Humanitarian demining activities carried out in connection with reconstruction projects

The meeting exchanged views on the implementation of projects and current issues in the direction of humanitarian demining activities carried out in connection with reconstruction projects. Also, reports on the activities carried out by the organizations involved in demining activities in the liberated territories were listened to, and information was provided on the machinery and equipment involved in the operations.

Taking into account the return of a large number of former IDPs to the liberated territories, as well as the increase in tourist visits, views were exchanged and proposals were put forward with the relevant organizations on the expansion of mine awareness activities, joint promotion and campaigning, and the implementation of possible projects.
