"A monograph of “Geography of Karabakh” will be published soon. The monograph has been developed by the Institute. Natural environments, natural resources, the economic potential of Karabakh have been noted in the monograph. We have reassessed Karabakh’s development, social-economic potential," said the Director-General of the Institute of Geography named after academician H. Aliyev of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Geographical Sciences Zakir Eminov in an interview with APA while answering the question on "Are any investigations are conducted in Karabakh as the Institute of Geography? Will any project be submitted to relevant bodies by you? Is work in this direction underway now?".
According to him, the revival of Karabakh can give a great impetus to Azerbaijan’s economy. "We can not restore all villages there. It will take a long period of time. Works have mostly been started in district centers. The closest region to us from a transport and delivery point of view is Aghdam city. It is possible to increase the population of Aghdam city to at least 200-300 thousand. Because, it is a plain area, is situated in a geographically strategic position. According to the general project of the state, a settlement plan of nearly 70-100 thousand people in the city itself, while 70 thousand in surrounding areas is developed. Restoration of the village means that it should be provided with electricity, roads should be established, water supply problem should be resolved, schools should be built, and social services should be delivered. It is an issue that requires many years."
