ANAS to consider removing Ramiz Mehdiyev from full membership - ANAS President

The issue of removing Ramiz Mehdiyev from full membership of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) will be considered after the court's decision is announced, the President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbayli, told APA.

He stated that Ramiz Mehdiyev has no status at ANAS other than full membership.

"Following the court's decision, the issue will be considered at the General Assembly of the Presidium of ANAS, and a decision will be made," he said.

It should be noted that a unanimous decision was made to expel Ramiz Mehdiyev from the New Azerbaijan Party, and it was deemed appropriate to submit a petition to the relevant authorities to strip him of all state awards.

Recall that Ramiz Mehdiyev served as Head of the Presidential Administration from 1995 to 2019 and as President of ANAS from 2019 to 2022.

In October 2025, the State Security Service initiated a criminal case against Ramiz Mehdiyev.

Ramiz Mehdiyev has been charged under Articles 193-1.3.2 (legalization of property obtained through criminal activity), 274 (high treason), and 278.1 (actions aimed at the forcible seizure of power or the forcible change of the constitutional order of the state) of the Criminal Code.
