The Ministry of Emergency Situations has appealed to the public to observe fire safety rules in connection with the hot weather expected over the weekend, APA reports, citing the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
The appeal states:
"According to the National Hydrometeorological Service, air temperatures across the country are expected to rise on the upcoming Saturday and Sunday, reaching 41°C in some areas.
Under such weather conditions, even minor carelessness or negligence may result in fires in various locations, particularly in open areas and forested zones. In addition, increased use of household electrical appliances (such as air conditioners) to protect against the heat raises the risk of overloading electrical wiring, which may eventually lead to short circuits.
In this regard, the Ministry of Emergency Situations calls on the public to strictly comply with fire safety regulations, taking into account that high temperatures increase fire risks.
Specifically, electrical networks in homes and workplaces should not be overloaded, the technical condition of electrical equipment and protective devices should be inspected, and any identified defects should be eliminated immediately. Open flames and smoking should be avoided in crop fields, threshing areas, places where haystacks are stored, and their vicinity. The yards of private houses, farms, and industrial facilities should be regularly cleared of dry grass and waste. It should not be forgotten that carelessly discarded cigarette butts and matches that have not been fully extinguished, glass objects, and materials soaked with flammable liquids create a fire hazard.
Furthermore, residents living near forested areas and citizens traveling to nature for recreation should keep in mind that campfires in forests may only be lit in specially designated areas. Before lighting a fire, the fire risk of the area should be assessed, and locations under trees or with dry grass, bushes, or wood debris should not be chosen. The area within a radius of 0.5 to 1 meter around the campfire should be cleared of grass. A lit campfire must never be left unattended and must be completely extinguished before leaving the area. Lighting campfires in windy weather is prohibited.
Remember, disregard for the rules is a threat to our lives!"
The Ministry of Emergency Situations also advised the public to call 112 in case of danger.
