A meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is planned in Washington on Tuesday, Reuters and a White House official said, APA reports.
According to the report, the Ukrainian side is also interested in Zelenskyy's visit to the United States. However, a Ukrainian source said that the final decision on the visit will be made after the White House approves Trump's official schedule.
According to the source, Ukrainian and US officials also discussed a proposal to halt combat operations in the airspace as part of new peace initiatives expected to be presented to Russia. It was noted that this initiative is part of the next package of peace talks aimed at ending the war in Ukraine.
The publication emphasized that Ukraine had previously approached Russian President Vladimir Putin with ceasefire proposals, but those initiatives were rejected.
Some officials believe that the increasing pressure on the Russian economy resulting from Ukrainian drone and missile strikes could lead to a softening of Putin's position.
