“We have started a new project on establishing good management system in protected areas, with the support of Global Environment Fund, Head of the Partnership and Coordination Office of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Azerbaijan Melek Cakmak told journalists, APA reports.
She noted that the project will be piloted in three areas: “One of them may be Basticay territory in Karabakh. It has been suggested by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources. Moreover, there will be a project on preventing the degradation of soils. The project will be implemented in Absheron peninsula, there are problems there.”
According to M. Cakmak, at the request of the Azerbaijani government, by means of sattalite footages, the use of lands in Basticay reserve, how forests have changed from 2000 up today will be calculated: “If the government has DATA or footage for years before 2000, that period can also be calculated.”
