19 years pass since the establishment of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) of the Republic of Azerbaijan of the Republic of Azerbaijan, APA reports.
Under the Order of President Ilham Aliyev dated December 8, 2006, December 16 is annually celebrated as the professional holiday of MES employees in Azerbaijan.
Over the past 19 years, the Ministry of Emergency Situations has successfully ensured civil defense and the protection of populations and territories from natural and man-made disasters.
To enhance the professional training of MES employees, agreements have been signed with relevant higher education institutions from several countries. Additionally, in 2008, the MES Academy was established by a relevant Order of the President. The Academy has been equipped with the necessary material and technical base.
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev pays special attention to strengthening the material and technical base of the Ministry, its equipment with the most modern technology, equipment, and mechanisms. On December 9, 2022, the President familiarized himself with special-purpose equipment to be used in the liberated territories. For fire protection in the liberated territories, MES has acquired 150 "KamAZ" and "Iveco" brand fire trucks.
Modern firefighting and accident-rescue vehicles, mobile command buses equipped with the latest communication systems capable of establishing video conferences with MES institutions to manage crises on the scene during emergencies, vehicles with radio systems, motorcycles, systems for detecting and neutralizing mines and military ordnance, boats, lifeboats, search vessels for rescue operations at sea, the "Be-200 CS" amphibious aircraft for firefighting and other rescue functions, helicopters, mobile laboratories for monitoring the compliance of construction projects with technical safety standards, mobile hospitals for providing medical assistance to victims at emergency sites, and hundreds of other special-purpose technical equipment are skillfully used in the daily work processes.
In the first nine months of this year, 12,183 natural and man-made incidents were recorded across Azerbaijan. This is 242 incidents or 2% less compared to the same period in 2023. Ministry rescuers saved 108 people, and 914 people were evacuated. The Ministry's employees have repeatedly demonstrated their professionalism.
The Ministry also showcases its high level of professionalism internationally. An example of this is the recent activities of the MES International Search and Rescue Team conducted abroad.
Last year, under the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev, a 760-member rescue team from the Ministry of Emergency Situations was sent to the Republic of Türkiye to assist in eliminating the consequences of the powerful earthquake. The team operated in the cities of Kahramanmaraş, Hatay, and other areas affected by the earthquake. Additionally, Elvin Iskandarov, a rescuer from the MES Special Risky Rescue Service who participated in the search and rescue operations and extracted three survivors and 25 bodies from the rubble in Kahramanmaraş, was awarded the "Republic of Türkiye State Superior Sacrifice Medal" by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

At the same time, in accordance with the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev, in 2021, as well as from August 18, 2024, the BE-200 CS amphibious aircraft of the Aviation Unit of the Ministry of Emergency Situations was sent to the brotherly country to assist in extinguishing forest fires in Türkiye, the aircraft performed its tasks with high professionalism and achieved complete extinguishing of forest fires.
At the request of the Government of the State of Israel, and in accordance with the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev, the "BE-200CS" amphibious aircraft of the Ministry of Emergency Situations was sent to Israel on November 25, 2016, to extinguish the fires raging there. On November 26, the aircraft conducted reconnaissance flights over the fire zones and successfully extinguished fires in 8 locations by dropping 80 tons of water. On November 27, the aircraft, according to the operational plan, carried out a rotation in the airspace near Haifa, Israel, within a 150 km radius.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations also contributed to the victory during the Patriotic War. The ministry’s forces demonstrated dedication in protecting residential areas from fires caused by heavy artillery and rocket fire by the enemy and in rescue operations.
Since January 2021, the MES’s Special Risky Rescue Service has been conducting demining operations in Aghdam and Fuzuli. The personnel involved in the demining operations are equipped with the latest technology and equipment. A military unit, equipped with the most modern technology and equipment, has been created in Barda as part of the Special Risky Rescue Service, aimed at improving and accelerating the demining process. Additionally, the ministry has acquired modern "GCS-200" remotely controlled demining robots. They are being used in the cleanup of areas contaminated with mines and unexploded ordnance in the liberated territories. The special purpose military unit of the Special Risky Rescue Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, which continues its mine clearance work at a rapid pace, is conducting operations in villages and settlements, as well as in the outskirts of drinking water basins and along irrigation canals.
