Azerbaijani emergency teams participate in NATO “Bulgaria 2025” disaster management exercise

The “20th NATO EADRCC Emergency Management - BULGARIA 2025” exercise was held in Montana, Bulgaria, on September 7-12, jointly organized by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC) and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan told APA.

The medical team of the International Search and Rescue Team of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the Medical Field Unit Management Association (TABIB) also participated in the exercise.

Speaking at the official opening ceremony of the exercise, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria Daniel Mitov welcomed the participants involved in the exercise and spoke about the importance of the large-scale field exercise in terms of increasing the ability to respond quickly to possible large-scale emergencies.

Then, NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Shekerinska spoke about the goals and objectives of the next “BULGARIA 2025” exercise and wished the participants success.

The main goal of organizing the field exercise was to eliminate the damage that could be caused to the surrounding areas and critical infrastructure as a result of possible natural disasters and accidents in a coordinated manner.

In accordance with the exercise plan, the operations of the rescue teams participating in the exercise were coordinated using the capabilities of the “Local Emergency Management Agency” (LEMA), “On-Site Coordination Center” (OSOCC), “Urban Operations Coordination Center” (UCC), “Emergency Medical Teams Coordination Center” (EMTCC) and “Joint Air/Drone Operations Coordination Center”.

During the training, the personnel of the International Search and Rescue Team of the Ministry of Emergency Situations were actively involved in search and rescue operations, successfully carried out rescue operations for victims trapped under debris during conditional transport accidents and earthquakes, as well as support operations for the organization of the activities of the “City Coordination Center” (UCC). In addition, other employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations involved in the training participated in the training as “Evaluators” and “Observers” and contributed to the progress of the training.

During the training, the medical team of the Medical Territorial Units Management Union (TABIB) was involved in the disaster zones based on conditional information obtained from the “Emergency Medical Team Coordination Center” (EMTCC), provided medical assistance to the victims, and transported them to the appropriate medical centers by ambulance.

The training was successfully completed, and certificates were presented to the participants at the end.
