Today, Azerbaijan’s educational institutions are marking the Day of Knowledge, APA reports.
By order of the Minister of Science and Education, Emin Amrullayev, the 2025–2026 academic year will commence on September 15, 2025, and conclude on June 14, 2026.
2.2 Million Learners in the New Academic Year
On September 15, approximately 2.2 million students across various levels of education will begin the new academic year.
In the 2025–2026 academic year, a total of 1.6 million students are expected to attend general education institutions throughout the country. Among them, over 130,000 will enter the first grade, 160,000 the ninth grade, and 117,000 the eleventh grade.
Around 90,000 children are projected to join preschool preparation groups this year, while early childhood education is forecasted to cover 226,000 children.
First Lesson Dedicated to “The Year of the Constitution and Sovereignty”
In the 2025–2026 academic year, the first lesson for grades II–XI in general education institutions will be dedicated to the theme: “The Year of the Constitution and Sovereignty.”
Education in Baku
In the capital, more than 505,000 students are expected to attend schools under the Baku City Education Department (BCED). Within BCED’s network, 39,622 children will enter the first grade, 47,438 the ninth grade, 35,134 the eleventh grade, and 124 the twelfth grade.
Additionally, 21,491 five-year-olds are expected to join preschool preparation groups, while 35,028 children have been enrolled in kindergartens under BCED.
The number of teaching staff in BCED institutions stands at 28,127 schoolteachers and 4,149 preschool educators.
Education in Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur
In the liberated territories, 243 children are enrolled in 7 preschool institutions. In the coming academic year, 11 new schools are planned to open in Karabakh. Overall, 2,807 students will attend general education institutions in Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur.
Rationalization and Temporary Online Learning
This year, a decision has been made to rationalize 113 more institutions.
It should be noted that during the Formula 1 event, classes in certain schools will be held online for one week. Among them are School No. 6, the 132–134 Education Complex, the Elitar Gymnasium, and several other schools located near the city center.
