ANAMA, former Finnish defense minister mull mine problem in Azerbaijan

Bahruz Mammadov, the first deputy chairman of the Board of Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) met with the delegation led by the former Minister of Defense of the Republic of Finland, Jan-Erik Enestam, ANAMA told APA.

According to the information, at the meeting, the delegation was given detailed information on the scale of the mine problem in Azerbaijan, the irregular mining of territories without observing any military norms, the serious contamination of civilian areas in addition to the former contact line areas with mines, discovered trap mines, as well as large-scale humanitarian demining activities carried out in Azerbaijan in order to eliminate the mine threat.

Jean-Eric Enestam expressed his gratitude for the provided information, and said that the achievements of Azerbaijan in combating the mine threat are admirable and that the report prepared based on the information provided during the visit to Azerbaijan will be submitted to the relevant institutions of Finland.

At the same time, Bahruz Mammadov emphasized the importance of expanding international partnership and support in the direction of eliminating the landmine problem faced by Azerbaijan.

It was noted that the meeting was organized by the "Finland-Azerbaijan Friendship Society" on the basis of a request addressed to the State Committee for Work with the Diaspora of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
