AMU hosts a scientific-practical conference dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of academician Zarifa Aliyeva -PHOTO

On April 7, a scientific-practical conference dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of academician Zarifa Aliyeva was held at the Teaching Surgery Clinic of AMU, APA reports.

Professor Geray Geraybeyli, the rector of the university, started the conference on "Current issues of ophthalmology" by saying that this year is remarkable for our people and our country.

Recalling that the head of the state, Ilham Aliyev, named 2023 the "Year of Heydar Aliyev," the rector underlined that several activities also commemorating the 100th anniversary of the outstanding ophthalmologist-scientist, academician Ms Zarifa Aliyeva were held this year:

"It is gratifying that a series of events at our university is continuing, and this conference is one of them. Ms Zarifa Aliyeva made a significant contribution to medical science and health care. She is not only a lifetime partner of the genius Heydar Aliyev, but she is also a well-known figure among those working in the field of medicine."

Following that, a film about Z. Aliyeva's life and activities was displayed.

Speaking at the conference, Professor Pasha Musayev, head of the Department of Ophthalmology at Azerbaijan Medical University, stated that academician Zarifa Aliyeva would be remembered with boundless respect and love: "She put in a lot of time and effort into educating young doctors, studying and solving their professional problems. Her numerous articles, lectures, books, and scientific monographs provide an important contribution to the process of forming a doctor as a personality in society."

Later, professor Tamara Huseynova, associate professor of the Department of Ophthalmology Solmaz Aliyeva, and employee of the National Ophthalmology Center professor Rasim Hajiyev spoke and shared their memories of Mrs Zarifa Aliyeva.

The granddaughter of Z. Aliyeva's elder sister Mrs Lazifa, Tarana Valiyeva, doctor-ophthalmologist spoke on behalf of the family members, remembering gatherings that she had attended since childhood.

T. Valiyeva concluded her speech by saying that Mrs Zarifa had a very good destiny, noting that she was the daughter of the outstanding statesman Aziz Aliyev, the wife of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev, and the mother who gave the Azerbaijani people a victorious leader like Ilham Aliyev.

Following the opening event, the presentation of scientific reports started.

Interesting updates on current issues of ophthalmology were heard from the Department of Ophthalmology's chairman, Professor Pasha Musayev, associate professors Tural Galbinur, Hafiz Kahramanov, Vafa Mammadova, and assistants V. Nasirova, N. Sadigova.
