426 thousand foreigners were engaged in labour activity in Russian capital in the first quarter of 2007, APA’s Russia bureau reports quoting sources of Moscow government.
13 thousand of labor migrants have worked in the field of transport, 43 thousand in trade, 182 thousand in construction, 15 thousand in public utility. These indicators show officially registered labour migrants. Moscow government examined new 2008-2010 migration program. According to the program, the places where foreigners are working are planned to be substituted with Russian citizens, as well as citizens coming from other countries. If 750 thousand quotas have been allotted for citizens from visa-free countries and nearly 80 thousand quotas for countries where visa regime exists for employing foreigners this year, next year maximum 250 thousand visa-free labour migrants will have right to work in Moscow. Chairman of Moscow Committee on interregional relations and national policy Alexey Alexandrov said that this quota has been formed on the orders of employees and mayor of the capital approved it and the proposals have been sent to Russian government. New quota will be asserted at the beginning of the next year and this document will be sent to Federal Migration Service.
City government is planning to strengthen control over life activity and work of migrants with the help of migration terminal soon. Terminal will be composed of office and district departments. /APA/
