Azerbaijan donates $650.000 to WFP

After World Food Program (WFP) warned Azerbaijan that it will no longer be able to contribute to Azeri refugees, local government donated to the association, Logistics officer of WFP Azerbaijan Fuad Guseynov told the APA. The Azerbaijani government donated $ 650 000 to WFP to continue contribution. This will enable to provide food to refugee families. Mr.Huseynov underlined that foreign countries are also expected to donate to WFP after the notification.
At present some 12 kg flour, 1.2 kg oil, 900 gr sugar, 300 gr salt amounting to $7 million are distributed among 154 000 displaced persons. Project of WFP envisioning contribution to the refugees makes up $ 7 million. Donor states are no longer interested in the financing of the project grounded on the economic development of Azerbaijan.
Being the biggest humanitarian organization, WFP has provided some 142 000 tonnes of food amounting to $108 million to the IDPs living in Azerbaijan since 1994./APA/
