Azerbaijani Parliament adopts annual report of National Coordinator for Combating Human Trafficking - <font color=red>UPDATED</font>

Baku. Parvin Abbasov – APA. Discussions were held after the annual report of National Coordinator for Combating Human Trafficking was heard at the meeting of the Azerbaijani Parliament. APA reports that MPs Aydin Mirzazadeh, Sabir Rustamkhanli, Azay Guliyev, Ganira Pashayeva, Ali Huseynli and others made speeches and approved the report.

The report was put to the vote and adopted.

Azerbaijani parliament heard the annual report of the National Coordinator for Combating Human Trafficking. APA reports that National Coordinator, Deputy Interior Minister Vilayat Eyvazov made the report.
He said that 85 facts of human trafficking were revealed in Azerbaijan as a result of operations conducted in the 10 months of 2012. 2 facts of forced labor were revealed in the reporting period. Two organized gangs and six criminal groups were rendered harmless. 20 were detained over these illegal actions, 3 of the wanted persons were detained.
10 persons were sentenced from 5 up to 10 years in prison over the human trafficking crimes.
Out of 53 victims of human trafficking in Azerbaijan in the 10 months of 2012, 19 were taken to Turkey, 12 to Iran, 2 to the United Arab Emirates and 14 to the Federation of Russia.
6 of the trafficked persons reportedly underwent exploitation in the country.
4 of the victims (7.4%) are not educated, 4 (7.4%) have incomplete education, 45 (84.9%) have secondary education, 35 are single, 17 married, 2 are minors.

“Investigations show that Azerbaijan is only a source country for the trafficked persons, no fact has been revealed in the past two years regarding trafficking of persons from other countries through the republic,” says the report submitted by the National Coordinator.

It was determined that 455 minors were involved in beggary and illegal service in the reporting period. These children were not determined as victims of human trafficking. Materials about 200 parents, who failed to fulfill their duties, involved the children in illegal actions, were submitted to the related government agencies.
Legal, psychological and other aid was offered to about 100 children at “Children’s right clinic”, “Social rehabilitation center of children and youth” in Narimanov district.
