Director General of the Republican Seismological Service Center of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) Gurban Yetirmishli told APA that the experts have inspected “Gunashli”, “Umid” and “Bahar” fields, where the US experts will construct underwater stations: “They correctly measured the level and depths of the sea and platform height. The well must be dug, seismometer must be placed in this area and batteries and solar antennas must be installed.”

Yetirmishli noted that the underwater stations will work in online regime. Information will be directly delivered to the server in RSSC: “Devices for underwater seismological stations will be brought to the country within two months. Technical parameters have already been specified. Construction of the underwater seismological stations must be completed till the end of September. Then the water will become cold.”

According to the general director, the cost of one station is half-million dollars: “First 3 stations will be constructed in the Caspian Sea. The Centre also plans to construct more 7 seismological stations in the Caspian Sea. Currently, 31 seismological stations are operating in the country. The number of seismological stations in the monitoring system of Azerbaijan will be 38 after construction of 3 submarine seismological stations and Aghdam, Fuzuli, Beylagan and Yardimli seismological stations.”

The US experts arrived in Baku on June 20.
