10th International Conference of Ombudsmen “The protection of human rights in emergency situations: problems and opportunities” starts in Baku - <font color=red>PHOTOSESSION</font>

APA reports that Ombudsperson of Azerbaijan Elmira Suleymanova delivering her speech in the opening ceremony said that this conference is devoted to June 18 - the Day of Protection of Human Rights, 10 years of Ombudsman’s institution in Azerbaijan and 20 years of Azerbaijan’s membership in UNESCO.

Suleymanova focused attention on Armenian military aggression against Azerbaijan. She said 20% of Azerbaijani lands are still under the occupation, the rights of millions of Azerbaijanis are violated as a result of Armenian intervention and discrimination policy. Suleymanova also spoke about the work of Ombudsperson in Azerbaijan.

Deputy Prime Minister Ali Hasanov, First Secretary of the National Commission of Azerbaijan for UNESCO Gunay Efendiyeva, Chairperson of the State Committee on Family, Woman and Child Problems Hijran Huseynova, Chairperson of Human Rights Committee of the Azerbaijani Parliament Rabiyyat Aslanova, Minister of Emergency Situations Kemaleddin Heydarov, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Novruz Guliyev, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Protection of Population Ilgar Rahimov, Head of the Apparatus of the State Committee on the Issues of Refugees and IDPs Telman Mammadov and Director for Human Rights and Antidiscrimination at the Council of Europe Ralf René Weingärtner made reports at the event.

The conference will last two days and in the second day of the conference – on June 19, for the first time Baku will host a meeting of the Board of Directors of the Asian Ombudspersons Association. Baku Declaration will be adopted at the end.
