Geology Institute clarifies information about earthquake to occur in Azerbaijan

Baku. Kamala Guliyeva – APA. Journal of Natural Hazards magazine published article on results of researches conducted by Massachusetts Technology Institute and Azerbaijani seismologists in earth crust of Eastern Caucasus. According to article, accumulation of tension is occurred around Baku and powerful quakes can be occurred in Azerbaijan. The scientists got these results after researches conducted during 10 years.
Chief of Geodynamics and Seismology Institute of ANAS Fakhraddin Gadirov noted that, two articles posted in lenta.ru site were not conformed correctly and this information was aggregated: “As result of our scientific researches, accumulation of tension is occurred in several places of Azerbaijanâ€. This accumulation means that, accumulation of energy here during next 10 years could reach a critical limit. One of these regions was Zagatyala-Shaki zone. The events occurred here as we expected. Second place is the south of Absheron.
Energy accumulation is observed in the south of Absheron. But the talks are not about terrible phenomenon here. It simply needs to inform the relevant instances while the houses and pipelines are built. Journal of Natural Hazards reflects results of our researches. These researches were also posted on the site of Massachusetts Technology Institute. But media uses this information as they want. Information is not usually turned out correctly and directs to put people out. We simply noted that, horizontal acts strengthened the deformation processes and energy was accumulated. These deformation processes can affect the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline. As a continuation of this work, Geology Institute studies the influences of these deformations on BTC’s Azerbaijan part by the financial support of BP Companyâ€.
