Reasons of Academy elections delay made public

ANAS president Mahmud Karimov told APA that the elections can be held in autumn, even in the end of the year: â€œThe elections will be held within this year. There are several reasons of delay. There were some discrepancies during the admission of the documents. We will not advertise again but some amendments must be made and the elections must be held after complete preparation of amendments. The main discrepancy is that the documents are submitted by candidates that do not meet the requirements of professions. There were other shortcomings. We try to solve it. After analyzing these cases, we have come to the conclusion that it would be better to postpone the election to ANAS.â€

Karimov said that now summer vacation starts in ANAS and to hold elections during the vacation is not advisable: â€œHearing of the candidates is being held. Each of the candidates delivers report on their activities. The ANAS members evaluate each candidate. This is a very difficult process. There are such places more than 30 people filed documents. The choice is very difficult. To conduct fair elections, each candidates must make detailed report on their activities, their scientific work should be analyzed and the need to reach a consensusâ€.

According to the admission advertisement, ANAS must hold examinations within 3 months after declaration of elections. Currently ANAS has 58 full and 106 correspondent members. Totally 255 people filed document due to full and correspondent members of ANAS. According to the advertisement, the election was announced for 40 vacant seats including 10 full and 30 correspondent members. 34 people filed document to position of academician and 221 to correspondent member.
