Details of â€œRisk mapping for the Bakuâ€™s seismic microzoningâ€ made public

Director General of the State Republican Seismological Service of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences Gurban Yetirmishli told APA that seismic estimation will be carried out for the various zones of Baku: â€œAfter this, the estimation of buildings in these areas will be carried out.
The main aim of this estimation is to prepare building, which will expose to destruction during the powerful quake. Conditioning of all buildings in the capital will be carried out. The construction materials of the buildings, communication and notes on the other infrastructures of the city will be attached in the map.â€

Yetirmishli said that such estimation hadnâ€™t carried out for Baku yet: â€œIf the works carried out under the plan, estimation of Bakuâ€™s seismic risk will start next year. The geological structure of Baku is very complicated and every area has own seismic features. The estimation will be carried out according to impact of quake focuses in the Caspian Sea, because there are not quake focuses in land. The threat for Baku city only creates in quake focuses in the Caspian Sea.â€

Final discussions on the preparation of â€œRisk mapping for the Bakuâ€™s seismic microzoningâ€ project with the representatives of the Japanâ€™s OYO International Company were held yesterday. The sides made a decision to complete work and submit the project to the government of Japan in late August, 2012.
