State registration of buflomedil-containing medical drugs and 100% boric acid annulled in Azerbaijan
According to her, the decision was passed concerning it at the last meeting of the ministry’s Pharmacopeias and Pharmacology Expert Council. Dashdemirova said that the discussions were held on boric acid-containing Leiner and Teymourov ointments and the relevant decision would be passed in the near future: “There is no country in Europe that fully refused to use the boric acid. Some drugs were limited because of ingredients. The use of 3% boric acid was stopped in the European countries. That ingredient is 2.5% in Leiner ointments and 7% in Teymourov ointment. The specialists were tasked on these drugs and they will discuss it and give a report to the councilâ€.
Dasdemirova said that 3 of 4 names of Buflomedil-containing medical means were produced in Italy and that decision had passed a decision to stop the production. Another medical drug is produced in Greece.
Dashdemirova said that the decision was passed at the council’s meeting not to allow the registration of Gatifloxacin. She said that the registration of Gatifloxacin-containing medical means would not be considered.
The Health Ministry’s Drug Analysis Examination Center asked the Pharmacologic Experts Council of the ministry to annul registration of boric acid drugs and buftomedil and not to allow registration of gatifloxacin. According to the materials submitted by the World Health Organization, boric acid drugs were examined again. It was identified that high toxicity of these drugs causes child death. The registered boric acid drugs are Belarus-made 5%-boric ointment, 3%-tincture and powder, as well as Azerfarm-produced Leiner and Teymourov ointments are the boric acid drugs.
Buftomedil creates more risks than its useful effects because it contains severe neurological and cardiac toxicity. Gatifloxacin could create hyperglycemia (high blood sugar).
