Construction of Genocide Memorial Complex to start in Azerbaijanâ€™s Guba region this spring

Habibov said compensation will be paid to the residents in connection with it. Necessary measures will be taken to provide 11 families with houses. The head of the executive power said the construction of the complex will begin in spring.

APAâ€™s north bureau reports that the representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Culture and Tourism Ministry, Melioration and Water Industry OSC and Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences visited the mass burial site. They viewed the area in connection with President Ilham Aliyevâ€™s executive order on construction of Genocide Memorial Complex.

First vice-president of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Arif Hashimov told APA that the complex should be in line with the local environment and favorable so that researchers can study in future. According to Hashimov, the new museum is of great importance for preserving the mass burial site as a sign of the genocide committed by Armenians against the Azerbaijanis.

The experts of the Ministry of Emergency Situations viewed the territory and said there was landslip in Gudyalchay running near the burial site. They noted the necessity of taking necessary measures and knocking down the individual constructions near the burial site.

On December 30, 2009, Azerbaijanâ€™s President Ilham Aliyev issued on order on establishing Genocide Memorial Complex in Guba. AZN 1 million has been allocated from the Reserve Fund of Azerbaijani President to Guba region executive power for the establishment of the Complex.
