Parliamentâ€™s committee chairman: â€œAdoption by foreigners sharply reduced in Azerbaijanâ€

According to the amendments, persons above 60 and not having normal living conditions can not adopt the children.

One of the amendments is about the protection of the adoptee property right until 18. Rajabli said so far the property of such children was protected by the officials or their relatives. â€œThe problems will be solved after this issue is described in the Family Codeâ€.
He said the draft amendments and annexes expected to be adopted until the spring session of the parliament.

The committee chairman also noted that adoption by the foreigners was reduced sharply in the past five years. â€œAzerbaijani parliament joined the special convention, which considers controlling every step toward the adoption by foreigners. This issue has strong legislative basis, which creates opportunity for protection of children rightsâ€.

Rajabli said there were two approaches toward the child adoption in Azerbaijan. â€œSomebody adopts the child because of mercy. But most people prefer to use barter for adoption. They want to adopt healthy child. Today four thousand families desire to adopt such children. But there are only such 20 children in the orphanagesâ€.

The committee chairman said there was no problem in the Azerbaijani legislation with adoption because of merciful motives.
