Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources announces results of monitoring in Kur and Araz rivers

National Environmental Monitoring Department of the Azerbaijanâ€™s Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources conducted monitoring for the first ten-day of December to study the level of pollution of the Kur and Araz Rivers and their branches, the ministryâ€™s press service told APA. Compared with the third ten-day of November, the flow rate in the Kur River in the first ten-day of December reduced by 11 cbm/sec and made up 193 cbm/sec.

The monitoring revealed that biogenic substances exceed the maximum permissible concentration in the Kura River as a result of pollution of the water with industrial and domestic wastes in Georgia and Armenia.

Phenol pollution exceeds MPC by 3 times, copper compounds by 4 times in the Shikhli-2 area, phenols exceeded MPC by 23 times and copper compounds by 3 times in the Aghstafachay River, phenols and copper compounds exceeded MPC by 3 and 4 times respectively in the Aghstafachay Reservoir.

According to the monitoring, the flow rate in the Araz River, which borders on Armenia, made up 154 cbm/sec. Phenols and copper compounds exceeded MPC by 3 and 4 times respectively in Horadiz area of the River, copper compounds and phenols exceeded MPC by 3 and 2 times respectively in Shahseven I, copper compounds exceeded MPC by 2 and phenols by 3 times in Bahmantapa.

Oxygen concentrations in equilibrium with the air range from about 5.85 mg/liter to 6.63 mg/liter.
