Nardaran residents decide to begin continuous protest actions
Chairman of the Committee for Protection of Baku Villages Population Rasim Alizadeh called the situation in Nardaran as sorrowful. “340 thousand AZN of electricity debts were laid to the residents of Nardaran, but they have no opportunity to pay it off. There is no one we can go with our problems to. Therefore the villagers will set up tents in the center of the village and begin protest action. We are stating that now that residents of Nardaran village don’t take responsibility for any confrontation tomorrowâ€.
The villagers are also against the removal of houses of a group of Nardaran residents because of construction the Baku belt highway from the Heydar Aliyev International Airport to Sumgayit. “It was declared in the village that some houses and New Mosque built two years ago will be removed because of Baku belt highway construction. There is no word about payment of compensation. We sent a letter to the ministry of transport to set amount of compensation. If these issues are not solved the villagers will not allow to construct the highwayâ€.
The residents of Nardaran said municipal elections would not take place in the village.
Rasim Alizadeh said 12 of 27 candidates were not registered by the Central Election Commission and 5 of 15 registered nominees addressed the CEC to withdraw their candidacy. According to legislation, the Nardaran municipality should consist of 13 members and the residents said the elections wouldn’t take place with 10 candidates.
Spokesman for the ministry of transport Namig Hasanov told APA territories for the public constructions, as well as roads are purchased at the government’s order. Removal or move of the facilities in Nardaran will be regulated by the legislation and householders will receive compensation at the market prices. Hasanov said they were investigating the territory in Naradaran where the highway would pass and compensation amount would be determined after the investigation.
Spokesman for the Central Election Commission Azer Sariyev told APA that he can’t say something concrete because CEC didn’t receive official report about the number of candidates for the municipal elections.
