The 6th International Junior Science Olympiad to start in Azerbaijan, December 2

Baku. Kamala Guliyeva – APA. The 6th International Junior Science Olympiad will be held in Azerbaijan on December 2-11. Press service of Youth and Sport Ministry told APA that Olympiad will be held in three natural science fields - Physics, Chemistry, and Biology among fifteen-year-old students. Over 600 students from 49 countries have already applied for the Olympiad. The event is supported by Azerbaijani Government, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, IJSO (International Junior Science Olympiad) and Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. Mehriban Aliyeva, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, UNESCO and ISESCO Goodwill Ambassador, will chair the event.

Working group has already been set up with participation of the representatives of education and science committees, bodies responsible for holding the Olympiad. Rector of Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy Hafiz Pashayev heads the Science Committee of the Olympiad, Youth and Sport Minister Azad Rahimov heads the Organizing Committee.

Multi-choice-questionnaires (MCQ), theoretical tests experimental tasks have been prepared with participation of the national experts. The devices for the experiment have been ordered from foreign companies. Special programs have been prepared to familiarize the visitors with Azerbaijan’s history and culture. About 100 volunteers will accompany the visitors, additional trainings have been held for them. The logo of the Olympiad is “Buta”.

The previous Olympiads were held in Indonesia (2004, 2005), Brazil (2006), Taiwan (2007) and Korea (2008).
