Results of monitoring in Kur and Araz rivers publicized

National Environmental Monitoring Department of the Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources conducted monitoring for the first ten-day of November to study the level of pollution of the Kur and Araz Rivers and their branches, the ministry’s press service told APA. Compared with the third ten-day of October, the flow rate in the Kur River in the first ten-day of November rose by 96 cbm/sec and made up 242 cbm/sec.
The monitoring revealed that biogenic substances exceed the maximum permissible concentration in the Kura River as a result of pollution of the water with industrial and domestic wastes in Georgia and Armenia.
Phenol pollution and copper compounds exceeds MPC, copper compounds double in the Shikhli-2 area, phenols exceeded MPC by 3 times and copper compounds by 4 times in the Aghstafachay River, phenols and copper compounds exceeded MPC by 3 and 5 times respectively in the Aghstafachay Reservoir. According to the monitoring, the flow rate in the Araz River, which borders on Armenia, made up 129 cbm/sec. Phenols and copper compounds exceeded MPC by 4 times in Horadiz area of the River, copper compounds and phenols exceeded MPC by 2 and 3 times in Shahseven I, copper compounds exceeded MPC by 3 times in Bahmantapa.

Oxygen concentrations in equilibrium with the air range from about 5.52 mg/liter to 6.55 mg/liter.
